Planet debate: Proposed new definitions

advertisement

On 24 August, the International Astronomical Union will vote on a proposed new definition of the term "planet"

Amongst the proposals is Pluton: A planet orbiting beyond Neptune, taking more than 200 Earth years to circle the Sun

This is fine for our system, but with plenty of extra-solar planets already discovered, and many more in the future, is this not a short-sighted definition? I doubt we have seen the end of this debate.
